The Hernando Sun covers high school sports throughout the school year, and summertime provides a break to look at the statistics from the past school year. We have put together the Hernando Sun All-County teams for boys and girls. Introduced first is the girls’ basketball edition, followed by the boys. Each team that was covered within the county will be featured within the all-county teams from the 2022-2023 campaign. The all-county teams are compiled based on regular-season statistics, team accomplishments, and regular-season performances.

Below is the 2022-2023 Hernando Sun All-County Girls Basketball team.

Guard- Gabby Scott, Weeki Wachee, JR: One of the toughest players in the county, Scott played with intensity every night, which was a huge reason for the Hornets’ success this season. She averaged 3.1 assists and 2.6 assists per game, both team highs. Scott’s 4.8 rebounds per game was outstanding for a guard with her overall size. Scott was named to the Springstead Holiday Tournament all-tournament team.

Guard- Gabby Lee, Nature Coast Tech, SR: Lee led Hernando County with a scoring average of 18.0 points per game. She helped lead the Sharks to a solid 13-8 record. The senior guard also averaged 2.8 rebounds per game and 2.5 steals per game. Lee will be a player the Sharks will sorely miss.

Guard- Samantha Suarez, Springstead, JR: Aside from fellow teammate Paul, Suarez was the next player in line that Springstead relied upon during its 16-9 season. The junior guard averaged 9.3 points per game, 3.9 steals, and 4.4 rebounds for the Eagles.

Forward- Isabella Paul, Springstead, SR: The Eagles had themselves a strong season and Paul was a big reason for it. The senior forward was the mainstay in the front court for Springstead all season long. Paul led the Eagles in many statistical categories, as she averaged 10.5 points per game and 7.5 rebounds.

Forward- Linsey Orr, Weeki Wachee, JR: The Hornets ended the season 20-6, and that’s thanks to the improved play and muscle of the junior forward. Orr’s eight double-doubles were the most in Hernando County. She averaged 12.8 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest, and her 94 free throws made ranked her 19th in the state of Florida in that category.

Utility- Lydia Jackson, Hernando, SR: The senior guard was the Leopards’ leading scorer on most nights and ended her high school career with a bang. Jackson averaged a team-high 14.9 points per game, along with 1.3 rebounds and 0.7 steals for the 10-14 Hernando Leopards.
