A report from a Winding Waters K-8 School student led the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) to investigate a suspicious incident that took place near a school bus stop in Brooksville.

According to the agency, a female student of the school was waiting for the school bus near Nightwalker Road between 8:35 a.m. and 8:40 a.m. on Oct. 26 when an older white man with white hair driving a tan-colored pick-up truck with a toolbox in the truck bed stopped and called her to approach his vehicle.

Instead, the student ran to a neighbor’s house to report the incident. The pick-up truck driver fled.

The student was unharmed and reported the incident to the administrators of the school as soon as she arrived there. HCSO Deputy Public Information Officer (PIO) Michael Terry declined to provide additional information about the incident.
