This time of year, many are shopping for those valuable 2024 calendars that will help them make and keep appointments and keep good track of their daily affairs. Of course, it always helps when one’s calendar is visually pleasing, boasting beautiful artwork that adds color and vibrancy to those days.

The 2024 Hernando Arts Calendar is now available. This fund-raising project takes the concept of the art calendar to an exciting new level, as it features the work of local artists, plus lots of information about county arts events.

Enjoy monthly artist spotlights and learn about the art opportunities offered by the Hernando County Fine Arts Council with the 2024 Hernando Arts Calendar! This calendar spotlights their public art programs, events, grant programs and partnerships. Show some love for your local arts community and support their first calendar!”

Beyond the picturesque cover that depicts an artist at work, the calendar features photos of artists and art taken at locally based art events such as Art in the Park, and at county ‘art spots’ like the Mermaid Trail and Gallery 201 in Brooksville. Various Hernando artists and their work are showcased on different pages, which also feature the dates and descriptions of regional art happenings.

“We are so excited to roll out our first-ever Hernando County Fine Arts Council Annual Calendar!” explained Allisa Babor, HCFAC chair. “We wanted to find a fun way to promote the arts and spotlight some of our talented participating artists, all while creating a way for the public to support our organization.”

In addition, funds generated through the sale of the calendar will go to support these artists, art projects and events.

Babor stated, “When you purchase a calendar, you help us continue to fulfill our mission to encourage, promote, and support all the creative arts in Hernando County and to provide a means to showcase the arts.”

“With the help of your generous donation, we can continue to offer and expand our programs, events, and grants designed to support teachers, nonprofits, and artists throughout our community,” she continued. “Your support allows us to carry out our mission to encourage, promote and support the arts here in Hernando County!”

HCFAC Administrative Assistant Jessica Knutila is pleased with the results of the Hernando County Arts Council’s inaugural calendar project.

“Our new calendar is super cute and fun!” she said. “It was our team’s first time putting something like this together, so we kept it simple by putting the spotlight on our public art programs and partnerships.”

This calendar, aside from offering vibrant creative images and a monthly listing of days and dates, is packed with info sure to be appreciated by any art fan.

“Each month, enjoy artist features and fun facts about the Arts Council!” said Knutila, citing Lyn Bechtel, Kathy Schemmel and Christine Weeks among artists featured on the calendar.
It is fund-raisers such as this one, notes Knutila, that promise to fill the days ahead with much more in the way of beautiful art and vibrant, eventful creative happenings throughout Hernando County.

“Fundraisers like this allow us to keep hosting events like Art in the Park and providing arts opportunities in Hernando County,” said Knutila. “This is a great way to show support for the Hernando County Fine Arts Council and appreciation for our thriving arts community!”

Pedram Moghaddam, vice chair of the Hernando County Fine Arts Council, shared that the new Hernando County Fine Arts Council calendar serves to personalize the arts community in the minds of Hernando County residents. “You see us at work, creating art,” he said. “You see us.”

The calendar’s featured artists are pleased to be a part of this very special creative project. “Yes, I was very surprised to learn that I was included. We had stopped into the welcome center to check on the Brooksville Garden Club Christmas tree. Then someone there said, “Aren’t you Kathy Schemmel?” ” I said, “Yes, I am; why?” said Kathy Schemmel, a featured artist on the Arts Council calendar. “She answered by reaching into a large box of calendars and opening one to the page, August, that I was on. It was me with some of my artwork that was on loan to NAMI at the time. Shocking! Needless to say, we bought a copy of the calendar and have been promoting its sale for the Arts Council fundraiser ever since.”

The 2024 Hernando Arts Calendar is available for $16. Those interested can pay extra for shipping, or locals can pick up a calendar at the Arts Council office, 300 South Main St, Brooksville, from 12 – 4 p.m. on Tuesdays while supplies last.
