On the morning of Monday, January 15, the community gathered in the streets of Downtown Brooksville for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade, which is held every year to commemorate the life, legacy and dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The MLK Brooksville Committee chose “Live the Dream, a Declaration of Unity” as this year’s parade theme, and the Frederick Kelly Elks Lodge #1270 took home first place for their float. This year’s Grand Marshal was Martha Maner, a native of Brooksville and a pillar within the community. Martha’s motto in life is “Show and give love to all.” She is a recognized activist for the City of Brooksville, lending a hand to anyone who needs it.
