Blaze Claims Brooksville Couple

A residential fire has claimed the lives of a couple in Brooksville. Both victims were disabled, according to a neighbor.

Hernando County Fire and Rescue (HCFR) Communications Manager Nick Brandt reported that crews from HCFR, along with personnel from the City of Brooksville Fire Department, responded to a call from a passerby just before midnight on March 19 stating that a house on the 19000 Block of VFW Road in Brooksville was entirely engulfed in flames. Meanwhile, multiple calls to 9-1-1 reported that two victims were possibly trapped inside. By the time fire crews arrived at midnight, the home was fully involved in the fire.

The extent and intensity of the fire precluded firefighters from entering the residence.

A defensive attack on the fire finally allowed them to enter the home, where they discovered two adult victims in the doorway.

Despite attempts to rescue them, the pair was pronounced dead at the scene.

It took crews 30 minutes after their arrival to bring the blaze under control.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal, The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) and the City of Brooksville Fire Department are all investigating the cause of the fire.
