Hernando Eats: VN Pho

VN Pho is located on the corner of Powell Road and Barkley Avenue. As the name suggests, they specialize in pho. Pho is a Vietnamese soup consisting of fresh herbs, typically basil and or cilantro, sprouts, broth, rice noodles and a protein like shrimp, steak or chicken.

The menu has pictures and descriptions, so you have a good idea of what your meal will look like. They used to have the original names of the dishes, but as they expanded their menu, those have been removed. You can order by number as well as the English description of the ingredients.

Our order was five bowls of pho, including: Special Pho, Chicken, Chicken and Shrimp, Shrimp and Steak, and Shrimp. In addition, there were two orders of shrimp spring rolls. The shrimp and vegetables were fresh and they came with a peanut dipping sauce. These pho soups had an assortment of beef meatballs, rare steak, steak, brisket, chicken, and shrimp, all of which were tender and juicy.

Their pho comes with lots of meat, rice noodles, and delicious broth, accompanied by a plate of greens to add to your taste. The plate has cilantro, sprouts, limes, and jalapenos.

For drinks, we sampled their Bobo tea or Milk tea. We tried five of those as well: Classic, Chocolate, Thai Tea, Strawberry, and HoneyDew. We also ordered their fresh lemon juice, which was similar to lemonade.

The staff is friendly and anxious to please. They go out of their way to make sure you are enjoying your visit. Their restaurant has a family feel and diners are welcomed in like old friends.
