A Brooksville teen with a long rap sheet and ties to a local street gang will serve 20 years in the Department of Corrections for armed robbery and burglary.

According to Michael Terry, deputy public information officer (PIO) for the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO), on April 6, Fifth Judicial Circuit Court Judge Stephen Toner revoked the Youthful Offender Status of 19-year-old Omarion Nathan and ordered him to serve 20 years in prison for robbery with a deadly weapon and five years in prison for burglary of a conveyance. Those sentences will be served concurrently.

The sentences stem from 2023 charges, but Nathan, who is a documented member of The Drezzy Family (TDF) street gang, has a long criminal history dating back to when he was just 13 years old.

The gang was credited with being involved in a string of gang-related shootings at the end of 2022, Terry said.

Nathan’s criminal history began in 2016 when he was arrested at West Hernando Middle School in connection with a residential burglary. He was subsequently taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) in Tallahassee.

He was also arrested when he was just 13 years old for battery and indecent exposure, for two incidents of larceny and petit theft at the age of 14, and burglary with assault or battery, burglary of a conveyance, two counts of armed robbery involving a firearm and resisting arrest when he was 15 years old.

In October 2022, when he was 19 years old, he was charged with parole violation for robbery with a weapon and burglary of an occupied structure.

In December of the same year, Nathan was charged with violation of probation and battery by a person detained in prison or jail.

The latest charges stem from Nathan’s March 6, 2023 arrest after a deputy who was at the Freedom Gardens Apartments in Brooksville noticed him riding a bicycle through the parking lot heading toward Hale Avenue.

The deputy identified Nathan due to his prior law enforcement encounters and through a noticeable birthmark on his chin.

“The deputy noted that Nathan attempted to conceal his chin using his shirt as he rode by the deputy,” Terry said.

During a search, the deputy learned that Nathan was under supervision by the Florida Department of Corrections (DOC) Parole and Probation for a prior felony conviction. That agency told the deputy that Nathan was under house arrest and confined to his home on St. Francis Street in Brooksville.

Later that day, HCSO deputies and officers from the Florida Department of Corrections spotted Nathan standing in front of a house on Shayne Street in Brooksville. He was taken into custody when he attempted to pull away from the deputies.

Nathan is currently at the Hernando County Detention Center.
